ATAP Conference Assistance Scholarships

Many ATAP members are challenged by limited resources in their pursuit of gaining the very resources they need to better manage their threat cases/investigations.

To help members experience the difference the ATAP Annual Conferences have made for so many others, ATAP offers Conference scholarships for select chosen Law Enforcement Officers.

ATAP’s Law Enforcement Conference Scholarships are divided into two categories:

The ATAP Law Enforcement Scholarship based on “Need” is open to any ATAP Law Enforcement Member who has never previously attended a National Conference, and who can demonstrate through written essay, not only the desire to attend the conference but also show a financial need or hardship attending the conference would cause to the attendee or their department. After submitting the necessary paperwork, the scholarship committee made up of the Association Chapter Presidents, the ABOD President and a staff member from the National Offices will select up to three (3) officers from all of the applications reviewed, to receive scholarships to attend the conference based on need. The scholarships can be used for Conference Registration, lodging (if needed) and travel (if needed). The Scholarship Committee will have final say as to the dollar amount awarded, after consultation with ATAP National Staff on costs for attendance. The Scholarships will NOT be able to cover food, per diem or backfill for a designated position while the member attends the conference. The amount of each scholarship will be based on that specific attendee and may not be equal to other awarded scholarships.

The ATAP Law Enforcement Scholarship based on “Merit” is open to any ATAP Law Enforcement Member who has never previously attended a National Conference, and who is nominated by a current ATAP Chapter President. The applicant should be able to demonstrate through written essay, not only the desire to attend the conference but also how they will use the attendance at an ATAP Conference to further their threat assessment work/project they want to begin or enhance work that has already begun. After submitting the necessary paperwork to the Chapter President that will be the Nominator, the scholarship committee made up of the Association Chapter Presidents, will select two (2) officers from all of the applications reviewed, to receive scholarships to attend the conference based on merit.

To be eligible for any of ATAP’s Conference Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a first-time ATAP Conference attendee (this requirement is not applicable to persons who attended a past conference as a student member)
  • Be a full-time Law Enforcement Officer within the jurisdiction they reside. (No part-time interns)
  • Submit a completed application form
  • Demonstrate through an essay an avid interest in the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals.
  • Submit two recommendation forms signed by sworn LE Managers or Administrators who are familiar with your work.

Recipients of the ATAP Conference Scholarships receive complimentary registration to the ATAP Conference and may receive limited travel/hotel assistance based on distance traveled. Eligible candidates may submit an application to multiple categories, if they meet the eligibility requirements. Candidates for scholarships do NOT need to be ATAP members at time of application.
